Why Newborn Photography is Important

When you first hold your newborn close and breath in their smell, hold their hands and sit for a moment in complete stillness, you experience an unmatched sense of love. 

The reason why capturing your little one at the newborn stage is so important because these moments will be fleeting, and having a beautiful collection of photographs to look back on gives you a chance to preserve details and feelings as our memories inevitable fade. And as a dedicated newborn photographer, it’s my privilege to be able to use my art to give you the memories you deserve.

When is the best time to book your newborn photoshoot?

There is a widespread misconception that newborn images should be shot within a particular period of time in order to capture those peaceful, sleepy images. However, there is actually no ‘perfect’ moment at which newborn photos should be taken. Many photographers will guide you towards the first six weeks, to capture them while they’re still little. But it’s worth noting every baby is different, with different routines, sleeping habits and personalities.

In reality, some six-week-old babies sleep better than 2-week olds, so following the rule that the younger your baby the sleepier they’ll be isn’t always true. As long as you understand your baby’s wants and needs, and do not place any expectations on them then your images will be full of honesty and love.

When should you book your newborn photography session?

I recommend booking a newborn photography session whilst you are pregnant. You can book as early as around the time of your 12-week pregnancy scan. When booking your photo shoot you can provisionally book a date around two weeks after your due date and then reschedule depending on if your little one is early or late.
